people around you. Most of all, it causes you discomfort, both physical and

medicines available in the market for a cough, but it may cause side effects
like drowsiness. So, if you are not a big fan of the sugary, cough syrups, here
are some of the most effective home remedies to get rid of cough.
1. Ginger and honey

and honey is the most effective home remedy for a cough. Ginger helps loosen
the mucus and expel it from the lungs. It is also helpful in stopping the
painful irritation at the back of your throat. Honey will soothe your throat
and it also has antibacterial properties.
All you need to do is take half an inch of ginger and crush it. Extract the
juice, mix it with a small-spoon of honey. Drink this slightly viscous solution
three to four times a day to get relief from a dry cough
2. Steam

you suffer from cold or a cough or congestion, inhaling steam will give you
instant relief. Steam will open up your nose if you have a blocked nose and
soothe the irritated lining of your throat. It will loosen the phlegm and
mucous.
Take
a bowl and pour boiling water into it. Keep your head around 12 inches above
the bowl. Now cover you head with a towel to for a tent to capture the steam.
Close your eyes and breath deeply through your mouth and nose. You can also add
a few drops of essential oil like tea tree oil.
3. Black pepper and honey

is another effective method to get rid of that irritating cough. Black pepper
helps in expelling the excessive mucous from your lungs. Honey soothes your
throat and has antibacterial properties. Take a teaspoon of black pepper powder
in a cup and add a tablespoon of honey. Pour in water to fill the cup. Steep it
for 10 minutes, mix well and drink it up. Repeat this twice a day.
4. Shallots/Onion and misri

is method will put a stop to a dry cough. Cut five to six shallots of half an
onion. Add in rock candy or misri. Mix it thoroughly and eat this. Misri will cut down the pungency of the
onion/shallots. This mixture will be sweet and you can eat it easily. You
will be amazed how quickly this method works
5. Turmeric powder

Turmeric
powder is one of the most common things you will find in your kitchen. And is
also an effective home remedy for a cough. Boil a cup of water and add a
teaspoon of turmeric powder in it along with a teaspoon of black pepper. Let it
boil for two to three minutes. Let it cool down and add a some teaspoon of
honey then Drink it twice a day.
